All aboard for the last time, like snow drill It was initially supposed to return for a fourth and final season in 2023, but with the show now canceled on TNT, will Netflix continue to air it like it does exclusively with seasons 1-3?
Based on the 2013 film by Bong Joon-ho and the 1982 French graphic novel, snow drill follows the resident of a train that perpetually travels around the world. The series stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Sean Bean, and Alison Wright and began airing on TNT in 2020.
In case you didn’t know, since Season 1, Netflix has carried Snowpiercer internationally as a Netflix Original. Better yet, every season so far has seen weekly episodes drop on the service.
Now, the show was originally renewed for a fourth and final season. That fourth season began filming at the end of March 2022 and wrapped in August 2022.
it was then in January 2023 we received the explosive news that season 4 would not be airing on TNT, but that Tomorrow Studios, the production company behind the show, was looking to buy it elsewhere.
The reason behind the cancellation was a mix of reasons, but mainly because Warner Bros. Discovery had been slowly pulling their scripted series out of TNT or even canceling it entirely, and it turns out that snow drill fell in the last field. It also came at a time when Warner Bros. Discovery was canceling numerous projects and pulling others from its streaming platforms.
The show was even removed from HBO Max and is currently unavailable to stream in the United States.
Another high profile TNT show, erased by the creators of cobra kaimoved to Netflix and is scheduled for release in 2023.
The underlying rights to the series were acquired by Tomorrow Studios, but it’s unclear how their efforts to find a new home have fared now a couple of months later.
Tomorrow Studios CEO/Partner Marty Adelstein and President/Partner Becky Clements told Deadline: “We love Snowpiercer and believe season four rounds out an incredibly talented story that will entertain viewers while exploring themes of change. Climate and the class war. We are so passionate about this series that we have acquired the rights to control the franchise.”
Willpower snow drill Is season 4 heading to Netflix?
As is, no.
We understand that Netflix is not required to stream the fourth season of the show, given that it did not air or was not fully completed.
Of course, Netflix makes sense as a home for season 4, given that it holds the international license, but as it stands, there’s no word on whether or not Netflix will be that future home. As time goes by, the probability of it happening becomes smaller and smaller.
Netflix will continue to be the home of snow drill seasons 1-3 for the foreseeable future, with most regions now holding the rights to the series through March 29, 2032.
Of course, if anything changes or develops, we’ll keep you posted.
