After a long time of silence, Netflix is finally moving forward with its upcoming live-action adaptation of Gundam, which will have Gundam fans excited and anxious. The project, announced in 2018got a start in production, but we’ve since learned that it’s been delayed.
The movie comes from Legendary Entertainment, with Jordan Vogt Roberts will be directing and producing. Vogt-Roberts credits include Kong: Skull Island, you are the worst, and more. It has also been used to adapt solid metal gear in live action starring Oscar Isaac.
speaking to ew in 2021, Vogt-Roberts spoke about the upcoming movie, saying:
“My goal is to help everyone who might say, ‘I don’t know where to start [with Gundam]’, I want to create this movie and give them an access point where they can say, ‘This is where you start. This is your entry point.»
Gundam script is written by Brian K Vaughan (Lost, Y: The Last Man, Fugitives).
Netflix’s Geeked account first revealed that the project would be heading to Netflix in April 2021 following its initial announcement in April 2018.

Cale Boyter and mother mary will oversee the project on behalf of Legendary Entertainment with the Sunrise Interactive and longtime creative team Gundam producers Naohiro Ogata and makoto asanuma.
What is the plot of Gundam?

Little is known about Netflix Gundam film, as plot details have been largely non-existent.
All we know is that it is in the Gundam universe. The only slight indicator is a teaser image of the RX-78-2 robot model seen above, which was revealed in concept art.
However, there have been rumors. A listing from years ago said that the film would be made in a «drama abroad» style format and would take place during UC 0105, which in the anime is a year before the events of Gundam Hathaway Mobile Suit.
Vogt-Roberts teased in 2021 that the movie «may be an amalgamation of several of these different things, different timelines and whatnot.»
Whether or not that was true remains to be seen. After all, the Gundam The franchise spans four decades and is one of the most popular IPs in Japanese history.
The possibilities for the story are quite plentiful.

In April 2023, cursed giant robot reported that Timothee Chalamet was in talks for the next film. Our sources have received similar information as well, though we’re told the production is eyeing the actor rather than in talks. They are looking for Chalamet to star in the role of Kit.
Furthermore, we are also told that Zendaya is also interested in the project (for the role of Cora). Still, we must emphasize at this point that the two main characters are most likely inspired by Chalamet and Zendaya (who appear together in the Legendary Entertainment movie, Dune).
What this suggests is that the scope of gunslinger is on par with Dune and that the two leads must have similar chemistry.
