Neil Gaiman Dead Child Detectives coming to Netflix in 2024. Courtesy of Geeked Week, we finally have our first look at the new series in the form of a teaser and some first-look photos!
Netflix’s Geeked Week 2023 has been a treat so far, as it features first looks at exciting upcoming movies like Damseluntil revealing new information about the streamer’s most prestigious program, Strange things. And that’s just a sample of what happens. Additionally, Netflix is showing off its new line of original shows, and among them is Dead Child Detectivesthat exists within the broader scope Sandman universe.
Originally scheduled to air on Max, the show was dropped because it did not fit with James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC universe. That said, Netflix was quick to acquire the rights to Dead Child Detectives. The series is developed by Steve Yockey, who serves as showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz. Neil Gaiman is executive producer.
Appearing for the first time in an issue of The Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman, Dead Boy Detectives would later get their own successful comic book series. Notable writers include Ed Brubaker and Toby Litt. Its two main characters, Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, They have appeared in live action media before. Fans may recognize them by Doom Patrol.
However, the eight episodes Dead Child Detectives The series will feature a completely original cast and is firmly set within the Sandman continuity. It will probably be linked to the story of The Sandman season 2.
What is Dead Boy Detectives about?
Born decades apart, Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) meet in death. Instead of entering the afterlife, the duo decide to stay on Earth and create the Dead Boy Detectives agency, where they face some of the most paranormal mysteries. On the show, they do all kinds of strange things, including traveling to hell and facing off against evil witches. Check out the official log line for the series:
“Dead Boy Detectives is a new take on a ghost story that explores loss, grief and death through the lens of Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland… and their very much alive friend, Crystal Palace. It’s very similar to an old detective series, only darker and more acidic.»
Neil Gaiman introduced them for the first time in The Sandman #25, halfway through Foggy season story arc, in the comics. In the story, Charles Rowland must be left alone at St. Hilarion School while all the other children go on vacation. However, he soon discovers that many of the school’s former inhabitants are returning from hell, including former student Edwin Paine.

Netflix has not set a release date for Dead Child Detectives still. However, a publication about x from Netflix’s TUDUM page confirmed that the series will hit screens in April 2024.
