New York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera created a bit of a stir Tuesday night when he entered the game as a defensive replacement against the New York Mets.
Cabrera was seen with a tooth dangling around his collar as he leaned in waiting to see where the batter would hit the ball. The origin of the tooth was explained.

«File this one under what you probably won’t see every day,» YES Network reporter Meredith Marakovits explained during the broadcast. «(He) walked past me in the clubhouse today and I said, ‘What’s on your necklace? Is that a tooth?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s a tooth. My mom told me to use it.’ It’s your grandmother Anna’s tooth.»
Marakovits added that Cabrera said that whatever her mother told her to do, she was going to do it.

«He’s a good son, but I’ve never seen that before,» he said.
Cabrera replaced Josh Donaldson, who pinch-hit for Jake Bauers early in the game. He had one at bat, but he struck out.
The Yankees ended up expecting a 7-6 victory over the Mets. New York’s latter team was hit with in-game drama when reliever Drew Smith was ejected before he could throw a pitch due to a sticky substance umpires said he had on his hands.

The Yankees are 39-29 this season while the Mets have fallen to 31-36. Game 2 of the Subway Series is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 pm ET.
