A game between Tennessee Tech men’s basketball team and Tennessee State was suspended Saturday night after coach Diante Wood was taken to a hospital after going down with an injury with just over three minutes remaining in the game.

Tennessee Tech issued a statement about the incident, but did not disclose the nature of Wood’s injury.

«Tennessee Tech junior men’s basketball guard Diante Wood suffered an injury during the second half of Saturday’s contest at state of Tennessee», the statement said.

«He was evaluated by members of the Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech track and field training staff and local Nashville EMS staff and taken to the hospital for further observation.»

«In accordance with Tennessee Technological University policy and HIPPA restrictions, no further information will be released at this time. We kindly ask that you respect the privacy of Diante, his family, and members of the Golden Eagle basketball program.»

The incident occurred with just over three minutes to go. Woods appeared to be injured after a collision with two other players while looking for a rebound.

He remained on the ground for 20 minutes while being attended to by trainers and EMS personnel. He could be seen moving his lower extremities.

Players from both teams gathered around Woods as medical staff tended to him.

The game was suspended with 3:04 left in the fourth quarter with Tennessee State leading 67-53.
