Despite the fact that 2.5 million people in Colombia are currently unemployed according to Dane’s calculations, the companies say they have a hard time finding the talent they really need.

Currently, according to the recruiting firm labor pool64 percent of incumbents say they are having a hard time finding qualified talent, up from the 61 percent reported in 2022.

Industries with the greatest talent shortage:

According to the study, the top industries in which employees can’t find the qualified talent they need are health care and transportation, logistics and automotive.

It is also difficult for them to find people who know specialized topics such as finance or public services, among others.

Therefore, if a person studies related careers, they could have greater possibilities.

What to do in the face of talent shortage?

Faced with this situation, the recruiting firm says that organizations are planning to invest in their employees more than ever, in order to preserve talent and reduce the difficulties of recruiting external personnel.

Even 13 percent say they are looking to hire more foreign talent.

According to the study, 83 percent of companies are upgrading and training their current workforce. Additionally, 31 percent plan to fill new permanent roles and 29 percent plan to invest in more technology to augment processes.

Also, to overcome the talent shortage, 57 percent of employers say they could offer more flexibility when it comes to working.

However, the firm says that when compared to other countries looking for qualified talent, Colombia is almost 13 points below the global average, which is 77 percent. For example, it highlights that the greatest shortage of talent is found in countries such as Taiwan, Germany and Hong Kong.

The study also reveals that the top skills employers are looking for most are human strengths in the digital age. The top of the soft skills most coveted agrees for resilience and adaptability, with 28 percent; followed by critical thinking and analysis, with 27 percent.

For their part, the main technical skills employees are looking for are customer service and marketing and sales.
