Rice unions march to demand that the grain incentive be maintained – Sectors – Economy

The rice sector is protesting today against the department of agriculture in Bogotá to ask the minister of the portfolio, Jhenifer Mojica, not to definitively dismantle the grain storage incentive.

The march was called by Rice Dignity, Agricultural Dignity, Rice Nuclei and Coagrodistricts.

After the National Rice Council held last week, Mojica said that said incentive was a temporary measure, which over time became permanent, but after authorized studies, it was hidden that for almost 30 years, it did not function as an instrument to sow crops and organize grain production levels.

According to the minister, the discussion cannot take place in terms of incentives, but must move towards the construction of a public policy for the rice sector that fundamentally benefits producers.

In general terms, the objective of this incentive is to finance the storage of surpluses that occur in the April and May harvest, which is the largest in the country, with the task of guaranteeing rational levels of grain marketing and avoiding bankruptcy that would directly affect the producer.

That incentive for this year has resources allocated for about 20,000 million pesos.
