Rep. Lauren Boebert on Tuesday filed articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden that will force a vote in the House of Representatives in the coming days.

The articles offered by Boebert, a Colorado Republican, which focus on Biden’s handling of immigration and the US-Mexico border, come on the day court documents revealed a plea deal for Hunter Biden for crimes petty prosecutors and a felony firearms offense.

«President Biden’s dereliction of duty has resulted in the surrender of operational control of the border to the complete and total control of foreign criminal cartels that endanger the lives of American citizens,» Boebert said on the House floor Tuesday. .

Unlike other impeachment efforts, Boebert said, his uses a procedural tactic that requires the House to take a floor vote.

“I am bringing my articles of impeachment against Joe Biden to the Floor of the House in a privileged motion, which means that all members of Congress must vote to hold Joe Biden accountable.” Boebert tweeted.

A spokesman for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., did not immediately respond to a request for comment on when the resolution would be introduced.

House Democratic Leader Katherine Clark of Massachusetts said in an email to colleagues Tuesday night that the «House is expected to hold a procedural vote on the motion to introduce the resolution when it is tabled this week.» «.

Passing a motion to file the resolution would essentially block Boebert’s effort.

He six pages the impeachment process resolution argues that Biden has abused his power and failed in his duty as president, leading an administration «that has continuously, openly, and consistently violated federal immigration law by pursuing an aggressive open borders agenda.»

Boebert, who tried to accuse Biden in 2021, accuses him of “knowingly and purposefully” releasing millions of migrants to the US “without the intent or ability to ensure that they appear before immigration court to face asylum or deportation proceedings.”

When asked for comment, White House spokesman Ian Sams said in a statement that «extremist House Republicans are staging baseless political stunts that do nothing to help real people and only serve to call attention».

Congressional Republicans and some Democrats have criticized Biden for his handling of southern border crossings and have frequently opposed efforts to kill off a Trump-era policy known as Title 42, which was scrapped last month.

The Biden administration has defended its border policies, arguing in a recent court filing that its actions have reduced the number of migrants allowed to apply for asylum at the southern border by allowing them to be screened for asylum only if they can prove they tried. previously. to apply in countries through which they passed or that their cases are exceptions to the rule.

According to Customs and Border Protection, border crossings have decreased from more than 10,000 per day to about 3,500 per day since Title 42 was eliminated.

Republicans have previously filed articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, which have not come to a vote.

In May, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, filed articles of impeachment against Biden over the administration’s handling of immigrant crossings, but the resolution did not require a full vote, as Boebert would.

The prosecutorial tactic Boebert employed was used last week by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Florida Republican, in an effort to censure and fine Rep. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat. Democrats, along with nearly two dozen Republicans, blocked the measure in a plenary vote.

Luna told NBC News on Tuesday that a separate measure to censure Schiff without fining him will come up for a vote Wednesday night, adding that he has gotten the necessary number of Republican votes to pass.
