Pat McAfee announced via Twitter on Friday that he has requested the dismissal of Brett Favre’s defamation lawsuit against McAfee.

Favre filed complaints against Mississippi State Auditor Shad White, Shannon Sharpe, Fox Sports Personality and McAfee for Favre’s alleged involvement in a $77 million Mississippi welfare fraud case.

The former NFL player turned podcast host called Favre’s lawsuit «a joke. A fugazi. A rib.»

«When you read the publicly available filings in the lawsuit against Favre, all the articles (FROM EVERY BASICALLY EVER NEWS SOURCE), evidence and damning facts from the very sad Mississippi welfare fraud scandal (new things are still being uncovered filed and revealed weekly), a «defamation» lawsuit by a sports public figure who’s in the middle of it all against a sports comedy show seems a little crazy… that’s because it’s… Ba-na- na-s,» he said in his tweet.

«As I’ve had to learn more about all of this…and experience it from this angle, I’ve realized that historically, this is going to be quite a notable attack on the first amendment AND comic relief as a whole in our society. I have faith that the The federal judge assigned to this case will see this for what it was, an attempt by a public figure to silence people from speaking out about their alleged horrendous transgressions. This is not how America works…or is supposed to work, at least».

In February, McAfee challenged Favre’s smear.

«There’s one word that I think was said outside of him, on this particular show, if you’re going to watch it all, and it would be ‘supposedly,'» he said at the time. «Our job is to report the news… We owe the world of sports media our coverage. We take our job as journalists very seriously.»

Rather than continue a fight in court, McAfee challenged the Hall of Fame quarterback to donate to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation in Mississippi.

«Let’s help the next generation of Mississippians together. Let’s give some support to the citizens of their state who might need it a little, and make something positive out of this sad clown show of a meritless defamation suit.»
