Paige Spiranac issued a warning to golf fans ahead of the last major event of the season, the Open Championship, which gets underway on Thursday at the Royal Liverpool Golf Course.

Spiranac posted a video on Monday reminding everyone who planned to tune in and talk about the coverage that isn’t actually called the British Open.

«The premier season in golf is sadly coming to a close with The Open this week and its yearly reminder to say ‘The Open’ and not ‘The British Open’ or else will blow a purist golfer’s mind.» Spiranac said before delving further. in a small preview of the tournament.

Cameron Smith is the defending champion heading to The Open. He shot a 64 in the final round to edge out Cameron Young and Rory McIlroy for the championship. A month later he would officially join LIV Golf and compete in the second half of the Saudi-backed league’s inaugural season.

Smith had to return the Claret Jug to the organizers on the Monday before the start of the tournament.

«I was actually holding back some tears. A moment, I guess, that crossed my mind,» he said. “It was not difficult to return it. I wasn’t like, ‘Don’t let go.’ But it was a moment where I guess you don’t think, and then all of a sudden it’s there. And you want it back.»

Smith has performed well this year. He has had top-10 finishes at two of the three majors so far this season. He was fourth at the US Open and tied for ninth at the PGA Championship. He also has a season win at LIV Golf this year, in London.
