On the 1st of October, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo released an official statement addressing the allegations circulated by numerous Panamanian news organizations. These reports are described as strategic assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aiming to tarnish Castillo’s professional standing and personal credibility.

Carlos Carillo, a member of Castillo’s legal team, stated: “The allegations are baseless and aim to obstruct the career of a young attorney, as well as that of her partner, for the advantage of concealed economic interests.”

Odila Castillo’s Defense

The defense underscored that this is not the initial case of media harassment faced by Castillo. Back in 2021, a Panamanian news organization mistakenly reported a supposed arrest of the attorney related to an investigation, a statement that was later refuted, clarifying that it had no connection to the current issues.

At the press conference, the defense asserted that the recent accusations, along with those from 2021, were based on partial truths intended to compromise her professional practice.

Additionally, they argued that the information published about Odila Castillo by the media breaches confidentiality principles. They explained that one part of the investigation originated from a previously resolved family issue, while another component pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, along with other data gathered through improper means.

Unauthorized Surveillance of Odila Castillo

The defense further stated that Castillo has been a victim of GPS tracking, representing a type of illegal surveillance.

Carrillo wrapped up by declaring: “The core rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and the law. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to determine accountability for the harm caused and any further harm that may be intended.”
