The Duffer brothers renewed their agreement with Netflix in 2022 and announced a large number of new projects, some within the world of Strange things and other new projects too. Here’s everything Matt and Ross Duffer, under their Upside Down Pictures banner, are working on for Netflix starting in 2023.

The Duffer brothers first signed up for a Netflix deal in September 2019 for several years. At the time of signing, the company was called Monkey Massacre, and has since been renamed Upside Down Pictures.

The duo is best known for their work behind Netflix. Strange things but they have also worked on projects such as wayward pines, Hidden, the boys of abaraham and we all fall.

As an aside, Shawn Levy and 21 Laps Entertainment, which also produces Strange things, also has an agreement with Netflix. Levy and 21 Laps have nearly a dozen projects on Netflix.


Stranger Things series 1 animated spinoffs

The duo is still heavily involved with Strange thingswhich will expand dramatically in the future.

Here’s a list of all the projects we know of so far:

  • Stranger Things (Season 5) – The fifth and final season of the flagship series concludes Eleven’s journey and sees her and company come face to face with Vecna.
  • Untitled Stranger Things live-action series – Spin-off series based on an original idea by The Duffer Brothers, with production by Upside Down and 21 Laps.
  • Untitled Stranger Things Animated Series – Described as a Saturday morning cartoon.
  • Stranger Things: Tokyo – Spin-off of the anime series yet to be confirmed.
  • Stranger Things: The First Shadow – The live stage play will start in London at the end of 2023.
  • Stranger Things VR – Tender Claws video game virtual reality project coming out in late 2023.
  • stranger things comics – Currently announced projects include Tales from Hawkins and The Many Ghosts of Dr. Brenner.

Live-action anime adaptations don’t have the best reputation on Netflix, and in fact, Death Note it has already been the subject of a live-action adaptation in film form. Although the film was supposed to have a sequel, its development is currently unknown.

The beloved anime is about a student who discovers a book that allows him to kill anyone he wants by writing their name.

Now, The Duffers will be working on a «live action» TV adaptation, but little is known beyond their initial announcement.

First announced for Netflix in March 2021development is still ongoing for the Netflix series adaptation of The Talisman, a book by Stephen King and Peter Straub.

The series is set to be a mix of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Here is a summary of the history of the series:

«To save his mother from certain death, young Jack Sawyer enters a parallel world known as the Territories in search of a powerful talisman.»

Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews worked as writers and producers on the Netflix series The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance and now he will join Netflix in a new sci-fi series called the districts.

Here is the official logline for the new series:

“In a seemingly quaint retirement community in the New Mexico desert, a band of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have…time.”
