Note: In this report of Netflix hours watched from March 20, 2023 to March 26, 2023, we will use «Full View Equivalent» or CVE, expressed in millions. That means we divide the hours watched advertised by Netflix by the running time of the movies or series. It allows for better comparisons between movies and series, but it is not an audience metric. It is the minimum number of viewings if they were all complete from the first second to the last of the movie or season.
1. the agent of the night makes a solid start.
Designed to be Netflix’s big new flashy spy series released in time to coincide with the end of the first financial quarter of 2023 and they got what they paid for. the agent of the night delivered an impressive start of 20.8 million CVEs over its first four days. That’s the second best launch for any series released on a Thursday, just behind The vigilant which ended up getting a renewal (a feat for a limited series at the time).
If the trend holds up next week, there will almost certainly be a revamp in the stock market. And it helps that the series is good too!
2. Is an Indian Netflix movie finally getting a global release?
India has been very interesting territory to watch when it comes to Netflix’s investment in original content, with many movies and series coming out but not really making it beyond its borders.
That is changing this week with the thriller. Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga which managed to reach the weekly Top 10 from 45 countries last week. At 6.4 million CVEs, it is the best launch for any Indian film opening on a Friday on Netflix globally.

It also boasts a fantastic 8.0/10 average rating on IMDb across 20,000 reviews at the time of writing. Let’s see how Netflix India can take advantage of that now.
3. Love is blind returns!
The capsules are open and emotions are already flying high like the dating show. Love is blind is back for a fourth season.
Released in four installments, the first batch of episodes managed to be larger than the Season 2 release, with 5.4 million CVEs over the first three days. It’s hard to compare to Season 3, since the last season released on a Wednesday (6.5 million CVEs in five days), while Seasons 2 and 4 released on a Friday, but let’s say Season 4 is probably the best start so far for Love is blind.

4. shadow and bone It’s just the shadow of what it was

The numbers are in for the second week of season 2 of shadow and bone and things aren’t looking up for the YA fantasy series.
At just 13.3 million CVEs after 11 days, it’s on the same trajectory as Raising Dion, which was quickly canceled last year. Yo
It’s also doing a lot worse than season 2 of Fate: The Winx Saga (which was also cancelled) but better than season 2 of warrior nun (slightly).
Shadow and Bone Viewership vs. Other Netflix Originals
This time around, however, fans of the series might have a hard time explaining a hypothetical cancellation to Netflix’s lack of promotion, as the series’ return was heavily hyped. Repeat after me because it’s important: External. promotion. does. No. affair. for. returning series. Or even movies, for that matter, like the first murder mystery is back in the Top 10 this week, four years after its release and a week before the sequel’s release.
I think it’s hard to overstate the fact that subscribers are aware of what’s coming out on Netflix, through the Coming Soon section, for example, or through the recommendation algorithm. But sometimes, all the recommendations in the world are not enough. A cause to explain the dismal numbers of shadow and bone it could be the time between the release of the seasons.
Two years is a long time.
5. Luther: the fallen sun is Netflix’s biggest movie of the first three months of 2023.
well, I count murder mystery 2 as a Q2 2023 movie as it will be released on March 31st and will do most of its run next month but let’s take a look at Luther: the fallen sunwhich, in its third week, is still #1 on Netflix
. Now it’s hit 73.9 million CVEs in its first 17 days, but if we just take its first 14 days (a new metric I’m working on), it’s the biggest movie this Q1 at about 70.5 million. from CVE, just before Your people which also did exceptionally well.
Luther: The Fallen Sun after 14 days of CVE hearing
Your people in January, your place or mine in February, Luther: the fallen sun in March, murder mystery 2 in April, Mother in May, Extraction 2 in June… Netflix’s monthly English-language Big Movies list is ready to battle for Top 10 dominance, and I’m ready for it.
