The man Matt Barnes allegedly spat on at Levi’s Stadium is reportedly suing the NBA champion.
David Patterson Jr., the ex-husband of Barnes’ fiancée, says Barnes caused him injuries and emotional distress during the divisional round game between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Patterson claims that the two started yelling at each other from about 20 feet away on an esplanade inside the stadium. Barnes then walked up to him and allegedly spat in Patterson’s face. Patterson is suing for battery, assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The video showed the two pushing each other before parting ways.
Since the incident, Barnes has filed for a temporary restraining order in Los Angeles County court against Patterson, who Barnes says started things off before the incident escalated.
Barnes said that Patterson «chased me down and aggressively confronted me.» He also noted that Patterson was yelling his «full name repeatedly,» sending the crowd «into a frenzy.»

«I was forced to push him away from me,» Barnes said, adding that Patterson was pushing him. «I didn’t want the altercation to physically escalate any further, and out of frustration with him looking for me and his relentless and repeated harassment, I spat in his direction in his disgust.»
Barnes said the two have been feuding for months over Barnes’ relationship with Patterson’s ex. Patterson allegedly went so far as to say that she would shoot Barnes.
This isn’t the first time Barnes has been involved in an altercation like this, though he was in Patterson’s shoes in 2016 when he reportedly drove 95 miles to confront The New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher, who was with Barnes’ estranged wife, Gloria Govan.
Barnes, who was with the Memphis Grizlies at the time, allegedly texted a friend that he punched Fisher and spat in Govan’s face.

Barnes and Patterson are expected to appear in court on February 16.
