Earlier this week, the Memphis Grizzlies said they would not bring back Dillon Brooks «under any circumstances» regarding his feud with LeBron James.

Brooks made headlines when he called James «old» and said he doesn’t respect opponents «until they come and give me 40 [points]Despite the trash talk, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated Memphis in six games.

However, an NBA champion is not a fan of how the organization has treated Brooks and its language about not bringing him back.

Stephen Jackson, who praised Brooks during Memphis’s series against Los Angeles, said the team «demeaned» his character because of its quick and aggressive attack on the 27-year-old. He also feels that James’ impact on the league had something to do with the decision.

«To me, I think it’s bullshit,» Jackson said on the «Paper Route» podcast via I AM ATHLETE. «I guess if you offend LeBron, everybody gets mad. I guess when you compete against LeBron, everybody gets mad. Yeah, he’s got a chip on his shoulder. Yeah, he could say a few things. But he’s not the first player to do that Ron Artest He did it, I did it, Draymond [Green] it does. I don’t agree with them coming out and saying that s**t.»

«I’ve been in those shoes when people try to demote your character and say certain things about you and I don’t understand that this guy just likes to play the game a certain way. Is he the most talented player? No, but he competes He’s in the NBA for a reason. You signed him. You brought him there for a reason. But don’t look down on him now because he said some things or he could have upset you.»

Jackson offered an alternate route that Memphis could have gone given the distractions caused by Ja Morant.

«What would have been better for Memphis if they came out and said, ‘You know what? We can’t have Ja do all this and Dillon. We have to get rid of one of them to improve our organization.'» Don’t try to single out Dillon Brooks just because he played the game a certain way with a chip on his shoulder to make it look like he’s a bad guy, and we’re going to come out and say no. I want to bring it back at all. I think that’s nonsense on his behalf.»

Morant was suspended for eight games after displaying a weapon in an Instagram video at a club shortly after news broke that he got into a physical altercation with a minor in which he also allegedly displayed a weapon.

Morant pointed to off-court distractions, saying they have an impact on the season.

«I just have to be better with my decision making,» Morant said, according to ESPN. «That’s it. The off-court issues hit us as an organization quite a bit. [need] more discipline.»

Brooks is the longest-serving Grizzlies player in charge, but he will officially become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Brooks is one of the elite defensemen in the NBA, but he has struggled with his shooting, knocking down just 32.6% of his shots from beyond the three-point line during the 2022-2023 season.
