The National Basketball Association announced Tuesday that players will now be penalized both in-game and monetarily for missing.

Those who miss will be charged with a technical foul and the opposing team will be awarded a free throw.

However, the NBA said that the flop will not result in ejections: Players are ejected from a game if they land two technicals.

Since technical fouls result in a $2,000 fine for the player, a flop will result in a penalty of the same amount of dollars. Fines for repeat offenders will gradually increase.

He NBA made note that a foul could still be called despite another player having fouled.

Coaches won’t be able to question whether a player floped outright, but umpires might end up calling a flop while reviewing a separate foul.

The new rules go into effect for this season, with the NBA calling it a «one-year trial.»
