MLB officials postponed Wednesday night’s game between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox over air quality concerns following the pall of smoke that has affected the northeastern part of the country as a result of the ongoing wildfires in Canada.
A single-inning doubleheader between the two teams is scheduled to begin Thursday at 4:05 p.m. ET on first pitch. The second game will begin no later than 7:05 p.m. ET.
The first of a three-game series between the Yankees and the white sox was played in New York on Tuesday night despite New York City Mayor Eric Adams announcing an «Air Quality Health Advisory».

During a press conference on Wednesday, Adams reiterated his call for New Yorkers to stay home.
“We encourage vulnerable New Yorkers to stay indoors and all New Yorkers should limit outdoor activity to the greatest extent possible. This is not the day to train for a marathon or to do an outdoor event with your kids,” she said.

The Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate and the New York Mets The affiliate in Syracuse postponed its games Tuesday night «due to poor air quality and a large number of precautions for potential health concerns.» They did it again on Wednesday night.
The Philadelphia Phillies also rescheduled their game with the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night for the same reasons.

As of Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET, New York City reached 218 on the Air Quality Index, indicating «Very Unhealthy» levels of health concern, according to the New York Environmental Protection Agency. USA
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an air quality health advisory, which will run through at least midnight Wednesday.
