from This Monday, April 24, the payments of the March cycle of Colombia Mayor begin, an assistance program attached to the Department for Social Prosperity (DPS). At least 1.6 million older adults will benefit.

According to the entity, participants throughout the country will receive around 80,000 pesos. Except for those who are in Bogotá, who will be granted an economic subsidy of 130,000. That is, 50,000 thousand pesos more for co-financing from the District Mayor’s Office.

Although payments start today, transfers will only be available until May 8th. To claim them, you only need to go to a SuperGIROS point, which this year operates the payment of the subsidy in all the municipalities of the country.

It is the duty of the elderly, once they receive the money, to count it in front of the cashier, as well as request the payment slip and verify the value received. Remember that the DPS announces to the beneficiaries the beginning of the payment cycle through a text message and that to claim the transfer it is not necessary to buy any product at the payment point.

The National Government allocated more than 135,000 million pesos to guarantee the payment of cycle 3 of this year.

Although this is, in general, the process to follow in the case of the majority of program participants, adults over 90 years of age and with reduced mobility have the possibility of receiving the money without having to use any physical point.

To receive the payment at home, they must complete the previous procedure, attaching the medical history. If the request is accepted, SuperGIROS will contact the beneficiary to coordinate the cash delivery. «In the past cycle, 8,339 adults took advantage of this benefit,» says the DPS.

Everything you need to know about Colombia Mayor: requirements and payments

Colombia Mayor is a program of the Department for Social Prosperity that provides financial subsidies to older adults who are homeless, do not have a pension or live in extreme poverty.

To enroll in the assistance initiative, applicants must be Colombian and have resided in Colombia for the last ten years. Added to the list of requirements is not having income to survive and being three years younger than the age required to retire for old age. In the case of women, 54 years, and in the case of men, 59.

The transfer will be available until May 8.

People who meet the aforementioned requirements may register at the Mayor’s Office of their place of residence. The only thing that you must carry out is your physical citizenship card and fill out the registration in the Information System of Colombia Mayor.

Once the information provided is verified, the prioritization criteria are applied, which determine the order to assign quotas. These criteria include the age of the applicant, the Sisbén score, the state of vulnerability, the loss of subsidy due to transfer to another municipality or the date of application for enrollment in the program in the municipality.

(Of interest: Colombia Mayor: this is how you can claim the fifth payment of the subsidy).

The value of the economic assistance received by the beneficiaries is 80,000 Colombian pesos, with the exception of those who reside in Bogotá, since the Mayor’s Office grants an additional figure (around 50,000 pesos).

Payments are made monthly and are announced by the entity through text messages or through official channels. After the transfer is made, the beneficiaries will have to wait, in most cases, around 10 business days to claim at the authorized points.

Due to logistical agreements, there are municipalities that receive payments every two months, so it is necessary to consult the list provided on the official DPS website and verify.

The transfers are made month by month, as long as the elderly person does not die, the information provided is proven to be false, or they receive a pension or any other income and old age subsidy. Financial assistance can also be lost when the beneficiary is found to be begging as a productive activity or when money orders are not consecutively collected.
