JJ Watt’s playing days in the NFL are over, but is he looking to start a coaching career right away?

Watt has been active on social media since finishing his final NFL season with the Arizona Cardinals. On Monday, he posted a very interesting image without a captain that he has the NFL world in an uproar.

The image showed Watt and his former Houston Texans teammate DeMeco Ryans smiling in their jerseys.

Ryans is one of the most popular names among head coaching candidates after serving as the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers for the past two seasons after Robert Saleh became head coach of the New York Jets.

One of the teams that seems to be very interested in the Ryans is the Texans, so might Watt be interested in joining their coaching staff if he were named their next head coach?

Watt could also just be showing his support for Ryans who could join his previous team. Ryans reportedly told the Denver Broncos that he is no longer interested in the head coaching vacancy, sparking speculation that Ryans believes he will be the next man from Houston to lead the franchise.

Watt and Ryans were only teammates for one season in Houston, as the latter finally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2012 season after six seasons with the Texans. Ryans totaled two Pro Bowls while there.

Watt’s rookie season didn’t go his way in 2011, but he was the 2012 AP Defensive Player of the Year after Ryans left, posting 20.5 sacks and 39 tackles for loss in 16 games. He would win the award again in 2015.

The 12-year NFL veteran announced his retirement following his final home game at State Farm Stadium via Twitter.

«[My son] Koa’s first NFL game. My last NFL home game. My heart is filled with nothing but love and gratitude. It has been an absolute honor and pleasure,» Watt wrote.

It’s been an emotional journey toward the end for Watt, especially as he walked off the field at Levi’s Stadium, where 49ers and Cardinals fans gave him a standing ovation. He was a bit choked as he walked slowly, savoring the moment before hugging the coaches and teammates on the sidelines.
