Perhaps the biggest surprise of the NFL Draft so far is that Will Levis went undrafted in the first round on Thursday night.

Levis’ tough night began when the Houston Texans proved all the rumors and smokescreens false and took Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud with the second pick. Earlier this week, Levis had been the favorite to take second place.

However, the free fall began two picks later when the Indianapolis Colts took Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Twenty-seven more picks came and went without NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announcing Levis’ name in Kansas City. Then, Levis will return to the green room.

Levis’ name is likely to be mentioned at some point on Friday, and despite Richardson preferring Levis, Colts owner Jim Irsay may have an ace up his sleeve.

Irsay toyed with a crazy idea and asked Colts fans for their opinions On twitter.

«Colts fans…would you pick Will Levis at #2 if you’re on the Colts board 4 hours from now…and voila [Joe] mountain- [Steve] Young for the franchise?,» he tweeted Friday afternoon.

NFL DRAFT 2023: WILL LEVIS, ONCE A FAVORITE FOR SECOND OVERALL, GOES UNDRAFTED IN THE FIRST ROUND

If Levis were drafted by Indy, it wouldn’t exactly reflect Montana-Young’s situation. Montana was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers from 1979 to 1992, and Young didn’t arrive in the Bay Area until 1987, backing up Montana for four seasons before becoming a Hall of Fame starter. The two weren’t exactly a duo as Irsay seemed to suggest.

The Colts have the fourth pick of the second round, which will be their 35th overall. The Miami Dolphins lost their first round pick this year for rigging Tom Brady, so there were only 31 first-round picks.
