New York Jets rising star wide receiver Garrett Wilson apologized Monday after rumors surfaced about the finalization of a trade of Aaron Rodgers and the four-time NFL MVP landing in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Trey Wingo, a Caesars Sportsbook ambassador and NFL insider, tweeted that he heard the Rodgers deal between the Jets and Green Bay Packers was «done.» The tweet caused a social media storm, and Jets players, including Wilson, were understandably excited by the rumor.

However, other NFL pundits shot down any deal between the Jets and Packers for Rodgers.

Wilson backed off and admitted that he saw a tweet from NFL journalist Dov Kleiman and got very emotional. Kleiman quoted Wingo in his initial tweet.

«Not going to pretend, thought ‘Dov’ tweet was the news I’ve been waiting for… smh. I don’t know anything. Sorry to ab(sic) that,» wrote the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Wilson alluded to his happiness once the report was published.

Things seemed deadlocked as the first day of the NFL’s «legal tampering» period began. The lack of news came after a weekend of reports that the deal was «essentially done.»

Rodgers told former NFL star Brandon Marshall, co-host of the «I AM ATHLETE» podcast, that his decision would be made soon and that he «was keeping an eye on it.» Asked how long everyone in the NFL will have to wait, Rodgers replied: «Well, I guess it won’t be long. There’s a time limit on all of this.»

«It’s always interesting to meet important figures in the sport. That’s all I give you. Stay tuned.»

Rodgers said after the Packers lost to the Detroit Lions in Week 18 that he would not hold the franchise hostage while he made his decision.

«I’m not going to take them hostage,» he said. «I understand we’re still in January, March is free agency. I just need some time, like I said, to get the emotion out and figure out what’s best.»

Since then, Rodgers has retreated into obscurity and neither the Jets nor the Packers made surprising news when the «legal tampering» period opened.
