New York Giants co-owner John Mara expressed his dissatisfaction Tuesday with the proposed flexible schedule for Thursday night games.
The proposal has been postponed until May, according to Sports Illustrated, but Mara criticized the idea when speaking to reporters after owners’ meetings.

«I am strongly opposed to that,» Mara said, via NJ.com. «Flexible hours, as it’s really inconsiderate with our season ticket holders who pack our stadiums every week. People have gotten used to going from Sunday afternoon to Sunday night, but that doesn’t mean they like it.»
«This year, we can be flexed for Monday night, which I think is very inconsiderate to our ticket holders. But flexing a game for Thursday night is abusive to me, and I’m strongly opposed to that. Thankfully , it was not so». I didn’t get enough votes, but it will probably be reviewed in May.»

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell responded to the criticism at his press conference later that day.
«Listen, there’s no one in that room, none of our organizations, who doesn’t put our fans first,» Goodell said. «That’s really important. Obviously providing the best matchups for our fans is part of what we do. That’s part of what our programming has always been focused on and flexibility has been part of that. We’re very judicious about that and we are very careful with that and look at all the impacts of that.
«I think we average about a year and a half flexible. It can vary in any particular year. So it’s very important for us to balance what I would call season ticket holders and in-stadium markets, but we have millions of fans who also watch us on TV. Reaching them is a balance that is always struck and making sure we get it right.»
Patrick Mahomes also expressed his dissatisfaction with the idea.
He quoted Pro Football Focus’s Ari Meirov on Twitter with a palm face emoji.
