Cockatoos teach each other how to make and use tools, according to a new study published in the Magazine of the Royal Society.

The finding was made by scientists from British and Austrian universities who saw a cockatoo scraping leaves off a stick.

The animal would then use the stick to drag seeds through the bars of its cage to reach the food.

When the researchers allowed the bird, named Figaro, to demonstrate his technique to six other cockatoos, they found that the rest were able to successfully imitate what the first did and that they made the same tool to retrieve food.
