Francisco José Lloreda, president of the ACP

«We need order, security, law enforcement and stability. Without these conditions we are not going to have the resources or the talents that the country needs to make a well-thought-out transition,» said Lloreda during the closing ceremony of the II Great ACP Forum: Sustainability Facts.

Additionally, he stated that «it is very complex to ask a company, even, it would be absurd to ask a country to renounce energy self-sufficiency and important tax revenues when the timing for taking the next steps is still not completely clear».

The president of the ACP also assured that in the energy transition «it is not about running but about doing things well», because neither Colombia nor the hydrocarbon industry is most responsible for global warming. «We do not make a difference, neither within the country nor globally,» he added.

However, he clarified that this does not mean that Colombia should «idle its arms», but neither can it «sacrifice development nor condemn the country to impoverishment due to a poorly done transition«.

Therefore, the union leader assured that, as part of this energy transition, efforts against deforestation and the transformation of the automotive fleet must also be increased. In addition to giving greater importance to the mixtures of gasoline and diesel with biofuels.

«We need a very well thought out energy transition. It is not necessary to replace this sector in the export basket or in tax revenue. It is about growing the cake, it is about seeing how we can do more, because We are going to need this sector for many more yearsLloreda said.

Another request made by the leader of the oil companies to the national government is that take care of democracy. «Democracies are more vulnerable than one thinks, including ours.»

«It is necessary that the exercise of freedoms and rights take place within a constitutional and legal framework. It is necessary that the separation of powers and respect for the institutional framework prevail. In a lacerated democracy, the energy transition is shipwrecked«, he added.
