After months of rumors, it appears that DeAndre Hopkins is staying in Arizona.

The rebuilding Arizona Cardinals are not likely to have much success next season and could trade the five-time All-Pro receiver to continue building their future.

QB Kyler Murray is also likely to miss most of the season while he recovers from a torn ACL, so Arizona is writing on the wall to continue the rebuild and acquire draft capital by the time Murray come back in 2024.

The Cardinals actually made a series of deals Thursday, one of which resulted in them acquiring a 2024 first-round pick, but none of them involved Hopkins, and it doesn’t look like any other future moves will, at least. in the short term. .

When asked if he would trade Hopkins during the ongoing NFL Draft, general manager Monti Ossenfort nearly shut it down.

The Cardinals acquired Hopkins before the 2020 season in a trade with the Houston Texans (who they also traded Thursday night in a blockbuster trade involving picks). In his first season, he caught 115 passes for 1,407 yards and six touchdowns. His next two seasons were littered with injuries and a PED suspension, but in 19 games over the last two seasons he racked up 106 receptions for 1,289 yards and 11 TDs.

Arizona started Thursday night with the third overall pick, but the team switched to 12th with Houston, which had just selected second. Later in the night, the Cardinals got to six and grabbed offensive lineman Paris Johnson.

Hopkins has two years left on his contract with the Cardinals and is owed $54.5 million.
