An investigation is underway after two Southern California high school baseball teams got into a fight during a post-game handshake.
Norwalk High School earned a 3-2 victory over Mayfair for its second straight win over the school on Wednesday, completing a two-game sweep in its regular season series. To celebrate, a Norwalk player brought a broom to the postgame handshakes and swept home plate to the front of the line.
Several spectators told the player to put the broom away or put it on the bench, but he did not agree.
«Respect the game,» a woman yelled.

Words seemed to be exchanged after handshakes, but fists started flying everywhere. Fred Robledo, sports editor for the Southern California Newspaper Group, told KCAL News a Mayfair manager was «beating up some players».
Trainers and other staff tried to stop the fight while other spectators entered the field.

Adults outside the field can be heard blaming Norwalk’s coach for the fight. A man in a button-down shirt was also seen holding a bat in his hands arguing with someone, who Robledo says was a father.

The CIF added that it is «gathering information.»

The win gave Norwalk a 21-5 record on the season and a 14-0 record in the Mid Cities League. Norwalk won the first meeting of the schools on April 28, 9-5. The two split the season series last year, and both teams are in the playoffs, but repercussions are expected.
