Minor league home runs are always fun to watch… when it comes to a recreational field.
The Boston Red Sox weren’t laughing during their Sunday afternoon matinee with the Tampa Bay Rays when Yandy Diaz’s RBI single resulted in a trip around the bases thanks to a mistimed error.

Margot booked him around the bases and seemed to catch the Red Sox off guard as he headed home. Outfielder Alex Verdugo passed the ball to Valdez, who was too late to try to get Margot out at home.
That’s when catcher Connor Wong stepped up to try to get Diaz out, who was running to second base on Valdez’s throw. But the pitch was brutal as the lopsided try missed the bag and rolled toward center field.

Another problem: Center fielder Jarren Durán wasn’t even in center field at the time after running for Díaz’s leadoff hit, which Verdugo chipped away before he could reach it.

As Durán chased the ball that continued to roll toward the fence, Díaz worked his way around the bases to score his Little League home run. And unsurprisingly at Fenway Park, the Red Sox faithful weren’t happy.
Diaz isn’t credited with a home run for that sequence of blunders, but he did get an RBI over Margot scoring from the single. He finished the Rays’ 6-2 victory 2 of 5 with a run scored.

With the win, the Rays improved to their best record in the MLB by moving to 42-19 on the season.
