Basketball Hall of Famers Grant Hill and Dwyane Wade have been seen as potential candidates to run for the US Senate in Florida as Democratic strategists target Sen. Rick Scott’s seat.

Democratic Party operatives and donors «see the need for a moonshot candidate» to try to stop the Republican stronghold in the state, NBC News reported Monday. Recruiters have reportedly sought out potential candidates who would be popular in the state and «have the ability to self-fund» to help change politics in the Sunshine State at the federal level.

«Grant Hill has a great name ID. He would raise a lot of money and he’s one of the smartest guys you’ll ever meet,» John Morgan, an Orlando-based attorney and Democratic donor who is also a business partner of Hill. . «Grant Hill would beat the crap out of Rick Scott.»

Wade is seen as a «dream candidate» given his recent foray into social issues. However, he made it clear that he moved from Florida because he did not feel his family would be «accepted or comfortable there.» Wade’s 15-year-old daughter, Zaya, is a transgender girl and he has been very supportive of her, even going to court to legally change her name and gender in Los Angeles.

He hasn’t been officially approached, but he is on the list of four or five dream candidates to challenge Rick Scott.

«There are different groups that talk to a diverse set of potential candidates, all of whom would be great options. I won’t go into where each of those conversations are, but I can confirm that there are organized efforts to engage everyone you’ve mentioned.»

Wade and Hill did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
