He san francisco 49ers They have stayed away from any details in regards to the return of Brock Purdy as he continues to rehab from an elbow injury sustained during the NFC Championship. But head coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that the hope is that the second-year quarterback will be ready for Week 1.

purdy’s recovery since he underwent surgery in early March to repair the UCL in his throwing arm it has apparently been going well. Last month, he showed up for offseason training and said the goal was to start pitching again in June.

Shanahan told reporters Tuesday that while he’s not putting any weight on his arm just yet, the Niners are hopeful that Purdy will recover in time to be available for their Week 1 matchup against the Niners. Pittsburgh Steelers.

«We’re looking forward to Week 1, and I’m pretty optimistic about that,» Shanahan said.

«That’s what we’re hoping for, that he’s ready to play in Week 1, and usually that doesn’t mean that’s the day he comes back. Usually you have to get there early to do that goal and that’s the day. goal we are waiting for. And I have no reason to think differently.»

Purdy said Tuesday that his rehab is going well and that «the plan» is to start pitching next week. He said the «goal» was to be ready for Week 1 as Shanahan noted, adding that they’re taking it «one day at a time.»

«I feel good, the arm feels good,» Purdy said. «To say I’m going to be ready for this moment or this moment, we’re not trying to label any kind of timeline like that. That’s a goal for sure though. You want to be ready for the season, and if that’s «That’s the case, great. But we’re just taking it one day at a time and we don’t want to say anything we’ll regret in the future or whatever.»

For now, San Francisco continues to work with quarterbacks Trey Lance and Sam Darnold as the OTAs began this week. Shanahan said Lance has been getting first-team replays to start, but has been promising replays for both quarterbacks.

«They’ve had two days. I think they’ve done a great job,» Shanahan said. «We’re just laying our base on offense and defense and I think it’s been a really good two days for them.»
