For the Valentine’s Day celebration that will take place on February 14, Avianca Cargo transported nearly 18,000 tons of flowers from Colombia and Ecuador to the USA.

For the 2023 season 2,000 more tons of flowers were sentWell, last year there were 16,000. To do so, 300 cargo flights were necessary between January 16 and February 8.

Avianca Cargo highlighted that it was precisely 50 years ago the first flight took off of this flower-laden airline to the United States. In 1973, a plane was loaded with just 12 tons.

«The export of flowers requires an increasingly precise coordination throughout the entire value chain to guarantee a delivery with the highest quality standards and in the time required. This year we not only achieved excellent results, but also we break record for the second year in a row«said Gabriel Oliva, general director of Avianca Cargo.

Among the most exported flowers this season by the airline, roses and carnations from Bogota; pompoms, hydrangeas and chrysanthemums from Medellín and gypsos from Quito.

To comply with these shipments, the company has also improved its infrastructure, since it will be inaugurated at the end of 2022. a new cold room in Medellín which made it possible to double the perishable cargo capacity and especially improve the efficiency of the operation.

«Each flower that reaches the international market has the stamp of the 200,000 formal workers that our sector has. It is thanks to this work and the permanent efforts between Avianca Cargo, asocolflores and allied entities, which have become an example of effectiveness in terms of logistics and foreign trade,» said Augusto Solano, president of the Colombian Association of Flower Exporters (Asocolflores).
