A day after being selected for the Women’s World Cup, 16-year-old Swiss midfielder Iman Beney suffered a serious knee injury during training on Tuesday and will miss the tournament, the Swiss soccer federation said.
Beney became the latest high-profile player to tear her ACL, an injury that has already sidelined several women’s soccer stars.

The Swiss federation said he was injured in a tackle during the last training session before Wednesday’s warm-up match against Morocco, another team in the July 20-August 1 game. 20 hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Switzerland coach Inka Grings has called up Bayer Leverkusen forward Amira Arfaoui, 23, to replace Beney, the federation said.
